Bank holidays in Assam are declared by the Governor of Assam under the Negotiable Instrument Act 1881. In addition to specific holidays, Sundays are also considered holidays in Assam. All bank holidays are determined in coordination with the Government of India and the Ministry of Home Affairs Notification.
Many holidays declared in Assam are based on religious and cultural beliefs. As the rest of India does, Assam celebrates three National Days which include Republic Day, Independence Day and Gandhi Jayanti. Other holidays celebrate harvests and other cultural beliefs that exist throughout India.
